Trust in God

Writer's picture: RoxRox

Our merciful Father is faithful and His mercies endures forever!

The Bible is covered with these promises, from the old to the new testaments His promises don't change, because He is the same yesterday, today and forever!

So what changes? Isn't it our ability to trust, to surrender that says a lot about our relationship with Him, about the confidence we put in ourselves to rely and trust God, that what He says He will deliver?!

I am not sure about you, but for me raised under the influence of religion, I was always made to believe that, I need to do the work and that I could always do more, creating the discontentment in me that, it was never enough, that no matter what I did it wasn't sufficient. Then time and again, God would show up and perform the impossible, He would bring solutions out His endless source of miracles, because He is the God of the impossible and He is El Shaddai, the God of more than enough, the one, who created heaven and earth, the one who parted the seas, that guided the Israelites in the desert with cloud by day and a pillar or fire by night; the one who fed them with angel food from heaven and quenched their thirst with a spring out of a rock.

All these accounts are nothing short of phenomenal, and like the Israelites, how many times have them tested God's patience with their unbelief or their feeble trust? Why do we forget so easily all His incredible miracles, only to fall back on our slave mentality that we are not good enough or that we need to do more of whatever in order to achieve results. I cannot help but to wonder whether it really is a slave mentality or pride concealed and disguised under the former?

What makes His promises that are so clearly described in the following passages, become my truth? What scales are covering the eyes of my understanding and blinding my ability for spiritual revelation and attaining His wisdom?

28 “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God:
3 “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.
4 “Blessed shall be the [a]fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.
5 “Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
6 “Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.
7 “The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
8 “The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you. (Deut. 28:1-8)

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? (Rom. 8:31-32)

Praise[a] the Lord!
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
Who delights greatly in His commandments.
2 His descendants will be mighty on earth;
The generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches will be in his house,
And his righteousness [b]endures forever.
4 Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness;
He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
5 A good man deals graciously and lends;
He will guide his affairs with discretion.
6 Surely he will never be shaken;
The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.
7 He will not be afraid of evil tidings;
His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. (Psalm 112-1-7)

All these scriptures are nothing short of breath taking; not only in the beauty of the words but in the promises they contain. Like water they are for a thirsty heart, who have been battling for days with the trickery of the mind.

In Deuteronomy 28:1 The Lord is very clear about how we need to proceed, he says if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments

The word diligent means having or showing care and conscientiousness in one's work or duties; so that means that we need to be aware of what is happening in the mind, the quality of our thoughts, the emotions they are trying to harvest in us, and how much we are feeding it by focusing on it. For if they are negative in nature then you know for sure that they don't come from the Lord, but the one who seeks our destruction.

The Bible also says in Romans 10:17 :

  17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

So it means that I need to read/hear, dive in/meditate on the scriptures above and all other beautiful promises that the Lord has made when it comes to all the goodness that stems from His heart and which He wants me to have. He also says in Joshua 1:8:

 to meditate on His word day and night

The consistency and frequency of this request may sound intense, but it is not for no reason; but a simple warning and a plea for our own protection for who among the living is free from the darts of anxious thoughts that are fired all day into our minds?

God's word is not only a testament of his promise, the Will of his inheritance to those who come to Him, but it is also a sword and weapon of protection against the evils of this world, against the thief of Peace, who steals the joy and the very life of those who wonder in the wilderness of life without God. Those who innocently buy into to the notion that security lies on the other side of the river of money, fame and success.

Sadly they come to learn if they reach the other side that, security is no where to be found, peace is scarce and joy is but fleeting moments of happiness, surrounded with anxiety and more hard work.

Jesus in is His abundant grace and intercession for us with the Father has invited and assured us in the following passage in Mathew 11:28:

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

The first words uttered by Jesus as He appears to the disciples after his resurrection was

Peace be with you (Luke 24:36)

It is not surprising to read this, for in truth; deep down aren't we all in this race in pursuit of this rare commodity that the world deceitfully disguises in material possessions, career and success built on the acquisition of wealth? And yet Jesus, the Prince of Peace gives it freely to those who trusts in Him. For He is not only able to contend with the storm in the sea but also with the storms in your soul!

As such, the only thing left for me to do, is to adopt Micah 7:7 as my moto:

Therefore I will look to the Lord;
I will wait for the God of my salvation;
My God will hear me.

For the Lord never leaves me, nor forsakes me. He has always been there for me in all my struggles despite my inconsistencies, but I ask for His strength, for His wisdom; I ask that His Spirit who lives in me and teaches me all things; also teach me to surrender, to believe, to trust and to keep me amidst His will, for to me to live is Christ!

God bless you all!
